Ok, I have installed Mandrake through VMWare, and installed the VMWare tools, the problem is X is still not able to start. I have run XF86Config and tried editing the file manually a couple times but no dice. At the moment the error I've got is,

Subsection "extmod"
^^^^^^^

Module section keyword expected.

I'm running an NVIDIA GeForce4 which, I'm guessing by some of what I've read, is a real pain in the butt to get to play nicely with Linux.

So...is it a problem with the X server?

Well I started over from the beginning, now when I try to start X I get a bunch of unresolved symbols and "fatal server error: caught signal 11. server aborting" along with "XIO: fatal IO error 104 (connection reset by peer) on X server".

I believe nvidia has driver download for this on there website. I had same prob with Mandrake and a geoforce 3 Ti 500. New drivers from nvidia were the fix.
