Hey guys,
My buddy had a computer that died on him so he took the harddrive out and bought a USB so he could still use the drive. Some stuff he could get off but other stuff isnt shared. No machine we have has the same type of drive so its not like we could just plug it right into another machine. He said he is also unable to boot through the USB so thats out also. Is there any way to get that off even with the NTFS permssions in place?

Will this work with files stored in another XP instance? The hdd was the only drive in the old machine so wouldnt the NTFS permissions keep out all users but the original owner(s).

You could also boot to an Ubuntu Live CD which has NTFS capability. From Linux, you can get any of the files you want without worrying about their permission. Just be careful; that could be dangerous if you're planning on trying to save the system.
