Windows Media Player - Playback Speed

Hey, so I recently reinstalled my OS, which was when I first found this problem.

On my previous OS, I was able to speed up all files (namely mp3s) without the pitch 'distorting' (going high, and 'chipmuking'). However, when I play mp3s now, the pitch distorts.

This problem only seems to happen with mp3 files - WMA files don't seem to distort with changes in speed.

Is this a codec issue? Are there options that I can change to remove pitch distortion with the mp3s?

Many thanks!

What OS are you running?

Have you installed all of your drivers to the latest versions (sound, video, chipset, etc.) from each individual component manufacturers' sites?

What are you using to speed up the files?

Try something like VLC player which doesn't depend on codecs and see if they sound the same as they do in WMP.
