I just bought a Dell Poweredge 1850 Server used from goodwill (for $50) but it didn't come with hard drives. When I looked at its manual I saw that it takes up to two SCSI Ultra320 HDDs.

I'm going to be honest, I know nothing about SCSI HDDs. Would the Ultra320 ports on my server work with any precious versions of SCSI? Will I need to do any configuration on the server end or is it mostly plug and play?

ultra320 referrs to the speed of data transfer. i wouldn't try connecting any drives other than ultra320;

on boot, it prolly prompts you to modify scsi config or scsi controllers settings. usually f9/f10 on hp servers. This is where you setup the raid array. production servers usually use raid 5/6 for redunancy purposes.

You will prolly need to load drivers via floppy disk or slipstreamed cd to install windows on the hds.
