nextbgates' thread got me thinking too, what should I do with my life? I'm 16, having just finished my GCSEs (results on 27 Aug, ten days! *eep*) and going into A-levels - planning on doing:
Maths, Chemistry, Physics, Eng Language, History
ICT is an option (I can drop one either Chemistry or physics for it, perhaps), however my mum (a computing lecturer, specialises in AI, security and a few other things) says that the actual 'degree' you get from it (forget the word) is actually totally useless in IT, employers don't look for it, and that any skills I might learn from it I already know.
A few of you probably know my overall skill level despite me not having been here very long, but I don't really have any idea how good it is, perhaps 'experienced on the basic stuff'?
But my main question is, what sort of careers in computing/IT would be open to me? I'm good with hardware, all I know on the software front is Windows usage and basic HTML/XML
Another question would be, what skills would it be valuable for me to learn/acquire? What's the UK (or EU?) version of the A+ and Network+, for example? (would Bingle it but it's hard to when you don't know what you're looking for)
I love everything hardware and my favourite job would probably be running my own tech shop, however those are fairly low aspirations I suppose.
