When buying a motherboard, consider what you need it for. Will you be overclocking? The board you bought is definitely meant to be OC'd.

The CPU and GPU are arguably the two most important parts of the system. Skimping on either is generally not a good idea, and as Trotter pointed out buying a low-end CPU for a high-end Mobo is a waste.

The 3rd most important part is the Ram. Again, buying a small amount is not a good idea. These days the least you want is 2Gb for dual channel rigs, and 3Gb for triple channel rigs. Buying a single stick is again just wasting a function of a very expensive motherboard.

Buying a lower-priced mobo and upping the CPU power would have been a great idea, but even then unless you can afford a full kit of RAM it's not worth it IMO. Too much of a bottleneck with just 1Gb and win7 installed.
