Virtual Web Hosting

I am looking to setup virtual web hosting. Right now, I think there will be 3 boxes (2 some form of free linux/unix distro and 1 will be running mac os x server). So my questions are:

1. Does anyone know of any sites that have good tutorials on how to setup/manage/do virtual web hosting.
2. Can you recommend the best linux/unix distro in terms of functionality and performance for using as a web server?

Any info is greatly appreciated.

1. Try the Apache home page and see if they have anything:
http://apache.org

2. I've run a webserver in Red Hat 9, Fedora Core 2 and 3, SuSE Personal 9.1 and Enterprise Server, and Debian 3.1. Debian and RH 9 were by far the easiest to do, with Debian winning among the two.

For a free, good-looking control panel that will help automate virtual host creation, I recomend vhcs.
