Unable to download photos from HTC One S to Macbook Pro on OS Sierra

I have about 300 photos on my HTC One S which I am unable to download to my MacBook Pro on OS Sierra.

I have tried with HTC Sync Manager but this just picks up thousands of random images that are not on my phone then can't detect the device.

I have tried with Image Capture on the Mac but again thousands of random images that are not on my phone get picked up.

Please help if you can.

Can you not just plug it in via USB, without HTC Sync running/open, and drag down on the notification window on the phone and select "USB / File mode" (or w/e the wording says), and then access it like a normal drive?
