Start up problem Dell Latutde

Hi

I have a dell latitude d600 laptop and there is a problem sometimes when I go to start it up , ( nothing happens ) I can feel the switch working , I even took the front bezel off and operated the switch with the end of my nail it clicked in and out but nothing happens , as I said it is not happening everytime I go to switch it on.
Has anybody got any ideas has to what the problem could be , I can strip a laptop down and replace /resolder a component if need be .

This might sound stupid, but: are you 100% sure it's charged?

Hi,

If you remove the battery but leave the power cable plugged in, does that laptop power on properly each time the power button is pressed?

Does the power socket on the laptop appear to be loose / faulty?

If you press the F9, F10 and print screen keys while pressing the power button, does the laptop power on each time?
