Slow to Save/Open file from Networked Drive

I'm having to wait a long time (1-2 minutes) using my CAD program to save a DXF to a mapped network drive.

It also takes a few minutes to open up the same file. Using windows explorer the files show up fine. It used to take only a couple of seconds before.

I'm using an XP Pro Computer and a Linux Samba server.

What could be causing this? Thanks!

how big is the file?

are there other similar files that do not have this issue?

run disk checks on the server. could be bad blocks or sectors

I doubt a bad hard drive is the cause of the problem. The network connection is the more likely culprit. What type of connection and hardware are you using?
