Should I include the optional Microsoft updates for Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit?

Hi guys!

Ok, maybe this has already been addressed, but I could not find a good answer...

Should I include the optional Microsoft updates for Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit?

I normally only include the important updates, but my wife's laptop has some known issues with Windows updates messing up her BIOS. ASUS K55-A.

Please give me some good advice!
