Sasser related to internet connection?

Lots of my relatives & friends have ADSL and they always get the Sasser worm. I have cable, my uncle has cable, my other uncle has cable and we never had the Sasser worm.

Could it be related to the type of internet connection?

It could be related to the firewall that the cable has and the adsl doesn't have.

hmmm..!
yes...we use routers for our cable connections...built-in firewall
that should be the problem with the ADSL because most people have these cheap USB modems and they don't use a router to connect multiple PC's (at least in my family)

I've had a couple of computer that I fix that had the sasser worm and they had high speed cable

But I think they got the sasser from downloading from kazaa and winmx

I had a friend that got sasser as he connected to the internet for the very first time. He was using dial up,, but he had a real obscure ISP.... Do you think he got it right from the ISP's servers?

Remember thats a Microsoft problem so I doubt the specific IPS had anything to do with it. The more people get infected the more it spreads. If a person gets it the first time they get connected to the Internet I'd say it just happened because they hadnt updated the software and bad luck LOL

Yea, there is a specific patch for sasser, the worm scans random ip addresses to attack. you dont get the worm by downloading it, you get it from another computer directly through the internet.
