running incredibly slow

I think the root cause of the slowness of my laptop is overheating. The air vent gets incredibly hot after 20-30 minutes of moderate to intensive use and I experience lag in every program, from the moment I start something until I get frustrated and close it.

I would have to agree with your original assessment. The log is clean. I would have to say that it is due to overheating as well.
 
I wouldnt say reverse the effects altogether. But it would certainly help. Any cooler that fits your laptop is advised. Using a laptop, especially for more than just email and minimal web should be on a cooler.
