I have 2 desktops and a laptop. All run Win 7. I have a shared drive set up on my primary PC. Obviously I can see it on my second desktop and my laptop when I am home. My question is this… is there a way to remotely connect to my shared drive from my laptop when I am out of my home network?

there's several different ways.

you can reconfig your router to allow access to your home network. then, it would be best to setup a vpn server or ftp server to allow you to connect. Some routers have vpn builtin.

or

sync your folders with windows live mesh. install live mesh on the machines at home. then setup which folders you wish to sync to microsofts web servers. when you are away, do the same to the machine you are working on. Note, this setup requires admin rights.

or

setup a remote admin program like logmein or teamveiwer on the home machines. then when you are away from home, goto a webpage to connect to your pcs at home.
