Hello,

I'm trying to install Redhat 8 on an external hard drive via firewire, with no success.

I boot into the Redhat CD, and it tells me that it's detected an ohci1394 device. But still, I can't recognise my external drive.

Do I need to load speicifc driver modules in order for it to recognise my external hard drive?

I dont think your gonna have any luck with this, check the kernel redhat 8 uses, im pretty sure it wont handle firewire. At best you might be able to use it after an install to an IDE or SCSI drive, but unlikley your going to be able to install to it.

You're gonna want to download a newer distro, probably Fedora Core 4 as it is RHEL4, but free version from Red Hat, just not commmercial support.

RH8 was out before firewire was even included in PCs. So, you're gonna need atleast a 2.4.xx kernel or a 2.6.xx would be better. No matter what, you're gonna need a newer distro.
