For one thing, 1TB is not a lot of space for backup by today's standards (imho)
On a second note, you'll never get the speed from your SSD through a usb port. Even a 3.1 usb port will max out way before the SSD can, If your going to get an SSD drive, get a drive that you can install in your pc (500 gb ssd drives are less than $100. many cheaper drives are under $50.) and use your platter drive for the back up. You can get usb 3.1 enclosures for your current platter drive.
