**UPDATE**

Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy is the OS I'm running as of now. And i have re-installed like 12 times (seriously) with the same issue.... NO SOUND!!! So is it just Gutsy or what? And please.... for god sakes... just give me a step-by-step solution for this. If there is any articles floating around the web then please.... feel free to inform me. Sorry for sounding so.... ill-tempered but this is really making me want to go back to windows (something i really... really do not want to do.)

2. i'd like to help but you haven't given much information like when the issue occured (i.e. has the sound suddenly stopped working with each install or never worked)

Also, yes the sound used to work. Have no idea why it stopped. The reason i have re-installed it so many times is because when it stopped on me the first time, i re-installed it and it worked fine. Then it stopped again and in the hopes of fixing my sound problem again i re-installed it again. But it didnt work that time. So, i kept doing it. Kinda like chasing the high you'll never get back.

edit2: oh, now that complicates the issue. you can't think of any software you may have installed each time around the time things went down hill?

I have a sound card too. But its not showing up in Ubuntu like it did in Windows. It used to come up as "Sound Blaster Audigy" but not in Ubuntu. I have to make an account there btw. I'm doing that right now.

No i haven't installed any software i just did a complete System Eraser by Webroot and completely wiped the drive clean (taking nearly 1hr 45min. each time.) Because every time i reinstall Ubuntu it sets a new partition. and i do not know how to use the Partition Editor in Ubuntu. Another thing, i can't understand how he/she got it to working. No nVidia. Creative Sound Blaster Audigy.

because i did read about an issue involving an nvidia graphics card and audio stopping at random times. what part don't you understand about what the guy posted, i might be able to help? though i'm leaning away from that being the solution as i found that before you mentioned that it originally worked.

To be quite honest i don't understand any of it other than the terminal commands.
