Problems upon reinstalling Half-Life 2!

OK, I uninstalled HL2 & Steam, deleted the Steam folder manually... and reinstalled them both...

Now I'm getting extremly poor performance in HL2, using exactly the same settings as before with the very same autoexec.cfg as I used before, as shown:-


mat_forcemanagedtextureintohardware 1

cl_forcepreload 1

sv_forcepreload 1

cl_ragdoll_collide 1

mat_compressedtextures 0


Lowering the settings etc doesn't help, I'm just basiclly getting p*** poor fps' for some bizarre reason. And yes, everything else is working fine...

Oh by the way, CS: Source doesn't even want to load up, it tells me either the servers are busy or it's not available in offline mode- but this is another matter.


Can anyone give me some suggestions here?

Why did u un-install HL2 and steam? Did you have any problems?

Well, I had the SDK, decided I didn't want it for various reasons... and somehow ended up deleting the whole lot... I should really pay more attention to what I'm clicking on

Oh btw, now I can't even start up steam, I just get an error message

Can you post the error messages.

I would uninstall everything and delete all Hl2, Steam and CS:S registry keys and see if that helps (backup registry first)

It's OK now mate, I reinstalled again and it's (oddly) running fine
