Hello world,
Is it possible to share a networked printer between different workgroups that are on the same network? The shared printer is the local printer of one of the networked PCs that has printer sharing enabled.

Best Regards

Sure. This is pretty basic.

All the other users need to do is go to their Printers and Faxes, right-click and choose "Add Printer". Choose the "Networked" printer option on the second screen, on the third choose to "Find the device", go find it on the network, and yer done. Windows will add the computer to your native printer options, and if needed, will install drivers to operate the printer.

Easy.

Thanks to those who took an interest in my query.

The overall picture is that we have six PCs, running Windows 2000 and XP, on a network, one of which has a local printer with sharing enabled. This PC along with four of the others use this printer without any difficulty.

The sixth PC however has two network cards, one to connect to the network that the other five are on and one to connect directly to a PC that is physically next to it. The shared printer can be added to the PC with two network cards and a test page printed but standard printing is not allowed; the actual mesage being 'Access denied, unable to connect'.

Any suggestions appreciated.

dude, buy a privt server, then you won't any problems. That's is a special device that you connect to your printer, and that printer will have an assigned IP.

Agreed, Print server is the easiest way. Then do straight TCP/IP printing.

No worries about sharing permission or any of that, of course Windows 98 will have issue without third party LPR software.

Thanks for the print server suggestion.

Is it the case then that the print server is the only option or can the existing resources, as described above, be configured to do what is required?

Best regards.
