Potentially the longest thread in history...

That sucks. They did the same to me. I expected X amount and they significantly low balled me.

Fed up of this **** and being poor in general. Lets start a company !

Seriously though, I am fed up of a 9 to 5 office job. If anyone legit wants to start some sort of viable IT/Tech related business let me know.

Yeah, I had a meeting yesterday morning to tell my boss that £23k was FAR below my expectations and that if it wasn't upped I'll probably be putting my notice in in a couple of weeks when the Met make their offer (which is a minimum of £34k and more likely £36-39k).

I wouldn't mind since it is forensics and forensics is usually badly bad - but my specialisation isn't. There are four of us in my department and the next-lowest-paid person is on more than £80k. It's very difficult and can't be done by just anyone. My justification for more pay is essentially, my original starting role could be done by anyone with some basic GCSEs. My current role couldn't be achieved by most Masters graduates; if I left, no-one at the company wouldn't have the skills or knowledge to replace me and it'd take them years to catch up.

I'd be happy to join a viable tech-related business if you have the startup capital :p

^ Holy cow that's ridiculously low for someone in ANY IT field, especially information assurance / security. wtf?
Yup. I make £5k less now than I was offered as a starting salary elsewhere two years ago, and all of the friends from my year at uni are on more than £40k.

Double post because I just got some news:

"Having spoken to [HR Manager] there is no current margin to increase your salary rise further."

Writing up my notice now, not sure if I'll give it in today.

Triple post cos more development.

I had a good 20-minute conversation with one of my work colleagues - someone I trust. He calmed me down and convinced me to stay for at least another couple of weeks as there are potentially very large opportunities coming if I do.

I heard that for 2 years in my situation lol.

Yea....ive heard that and actually told people that a good amount of times just to keep them calm.

Usually its just a trick so they dont quit and they kinda forget the idea after calming down. Or its to keep them there long enough to find a replacement.

In my case it was my boss "friend" who was just being a shady guy because there was no real replacement for me. The dude they have in there now knows nothing about anything in there and is just a body to sit behind a desk. So every time I'd squawk about money he would advise against leaving. I got sick of it and told my friends get me in and when he said he insinuated a counter offer I simply told him he can't compete with their offer. Then when he found out I'd be making more than him as a contractor he got bitter and the fun began.

^Thanks, I was hoping for the originals though so I could check out what kind of quality I could get from the cam :p can't tell much from a 112KB image

Last night I finally went to the doc to get my side checked out, confirmed I've fractured a rib -_- explains why my side has been a little sore lol. Looks like this weekend will involve a lot of laying down. Fun!

Yeah nah mate, don't stay. You're worth a lot more than what they're paying you now, and them trying to strong arm you into accepting a pittance says all you need to know IMO. Like **** they can't afford to pay you a whole 2.40 more an hour

I made that mistake with my first employer for years, I always managed to come up with reasonable sounding excuses as to why I should stick it out a bit longer. *Surely* they'd see I was contributing way more than I was costing them. Looking back in hindsight...lol :p just no.
My final pay raise request was what tipped me over in the end, 70c increase before tax. After 5+ years with them, I was on barely more than 40k (23k gbp). Handed in my resignation the next week.

Right off the bat things were better with my new employer, starting salary was higher and I got a guaranteed pay review after a year that was basically "if you're doing a good job we'll give you a good raise". Which turned out to be true :D so yeah, don't shackle yourself to some company out of any sense of loyalty. Take their actions for what they are; if they're not putting in the effort to keep you there and underpaying you to boot, gtfo already.

Couple quick snapshots in auto mode. Did nothing but resize them.

And this is why auto mode should be removed :p

The A6000 is a great camera technically, but the auto mode hasn't done a good job at all. Pretty much like most auto modes on most cameras. Unsurprisingly, smartphones tend to have the best auto modes, as they kind of have to.

I tend to shoot in aperture priority with auto ISO set between 100 and 1600 (3200 on a FF camera) and minimum shutter set to 60, unless it has OIS or IBIS, then I set it to 20 unless I am shooting fast paced stuff.

Agreed. Yami, i'd ignore whatever BS they tell you. Clearly they have no interest in appropriately compensating you. I kind of want to do the same, but it's a bit more tricky, as I am not as underpaid as you are. If I spent enough time searching and interviewing I might be able to land a job on £5K more, but it'd be a lot of effort, and I guess my boss probably knows that, which is why he can get away with just slightly under paying me.

I don't trust anything that the current owners say, but I do trust the people I directly work with. It's a long story but I'll be waiting a couple more weeks to hand in my notice.
