We learned the metric system when I was in school. Also, from what I know, the Army uses the metric system, ie a klick is a kilometer and they use meters and such..
 
I'm not sure how you'd get around not using it for stuff like programming too. Like, what's your equivalent of a microsecond? That's metric. Come to think of it so are the terms you use to say how much ram you have, or hdd space. Nano, Micro, Milli, Kilo, Mega, Giga, Tera, whenever you use those you're using metric

And the only time I use a computer is when I'm at home. I don't buy a mega of milk, I buy a gallon. I know that isn't how the term is supposed to be used, but just using it as an example.
