Original Xbox question

I know that the 360 has auto sensing Ethernet ports, but did the original xbox? I was always under the impression that you needed a crossover cable, which btw I always needed on for system link with my xbox, but a friend of mine got into an argument with me telling me that he didn't even know what a crossover cable was. That he always just grabbed whatever ethernet cable was around and used it and it always worked. Were there some models of the original xbox that had the auto sensing?

I don't think so, but his router or switch may have had auto sensing, and thus allowed any cable.
