Both are the full versions, but since they are downloads they lack some of the drivers that the come with in the pay versions. No problem, just download them.

I allready downloaded ubuntu but I will save that, anyways ok i pick mandrake it will take me about an hour and a half to download it.
Edit i thought it was one 600mb file like ubuntu ok this may take a while longer than expected
Linux: the kernel, communication layer, handles all devices and such
KDE/Gnome: Desktop manager.. They are like the part of windows you interact with
try to download a good live cd: knoppix, ubuntu live, mepis, after running one of those, you'll know roughly how much tweaking you need to get your system purring
