I'm trying to help out a friend who has an imac and can't save images of the web, I know nothing about them so have come to you for help.

this is what he has written to me:

"The problem is exactly that . If I right click on the image that i
want to save nothing happens at all. The cursor remains a cursor on the
image. I've tried clicking twice...nope.. hold down 20 seconds..still
nothing...But note that my mouse only has one click, I mean no choice
between right and left.
I should mention, and perhaps I did before that There was a time in
August it was where I could save images. I suspect my daughter, changed something somewhere. She has been playing with
the "iphoto program " or her new digital camera and maybe changed
setting inadvertently.
A lead ?
So what Ive got ere is a imac MAX OS X version 10.3.9 (panther)
My browser I believe is netscape. (Symbol big blue E ?) I can also
get to internet on Safari is that of any use to you."

Anyone have any ideas? I'm wondering if maybe his mouse is the culprit with no right button to click. How does one emulate a right mouse click with a mouse like that on an imac?

you can also drag the images onto the desktop.

man, how could ever he get anything done with out knowing about the contro click feature!??!

i feel sorry for him.

I don't think he was getting much done..;)

You guys are great,, thanks again, he is very happy now..:D

I went without control click for several years. It wasn't introduced until OS 8.6 (I think) Even then I didn't know it existed until I had read through an article over the OS that talked about it. Its easy to get alot done, because usually the same options in a contextual menu are available throught the menu bar at the top of the screen. Its just not quite as practical.

Need you guys again..

My friend that had the above problem has gotten back to me with another mystery.

I'm not sure why he cannot open this direct link to a PDF file or what his error means. It looks to me like he has the correct plugins installed for his PDF viewer..

I will copy below the main text of his e-mail and if anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it....Henry

"Veritable example.

I wish to go to this web site. :

http://hem.fyristorg.com/ebay/jpg/doc-rappel-satie.pdf

My computer then pops me to the hard drive and takes me to "Network
Diagnostic" which I click on then a screen appears saying :

" Could not load the plug-in PDF Viewer for the MIME type application.
Make sure there is enough memory availabe and that plug-ins are
installed correctly."
OK

So MEMORYwise here's the scoop; Specifications ; Built in memory
320 MB

Virtual Memory 321 MB used on hard drive

largest unused block 207.7 MB

Mac OS used 32.9 MB

Netscape communicator 20. 4MB

Picture Viewer 2 MB

Now what are plug-ins ?
How do I find if they are well installed ?

Here is what I found on the menu bar Plugin page :

Installed plug-ins

I'm still confused as to why your friend is using Netscape. Netscape for Mac really isn't that good of a browser. It used to be, but now its not. If you have him use Internet Explorer, then his problems should be minimal. If he doesn't already have it, he can find it here.

Netscape for OS 9.x was quite unstable, so this may be the root of your problem.

Thanks Mac_mogul,

Me too, I've told him not to use it and try connecting with IE or Safari.

He hasn't gotten back to me yet, but I'll let you know what happens..

He is not really very computer savy, and is brought to a halt by the simplest little glitches, so it's a slow process getting him sorted out.

I feel sorry for him, becuase he just wants to do simple things and he is getting stopped by these strange little problems.

why cant he register and ask these questions?

why did he have you register to ask these questions?

sounds to me like you are the one who has these questions.
