Hello, so i havnt been around for a while.. but i have been having a little problem that i have yet to find a solution to.

My current setup at home is pretty simple. I have a wireless router to which i have my main PC wired too, and my laptop connected via wireless.

My desktop has an extra Gb NIC, as does my laptop. I wanted to connected them directly so i can use the Gb speeds to transfer files faster from laptop to desktop. The problem is, when i transfer files, it automatically uses the router to transfer the files (using the wireless connection on my laptop). The only way to get it to use the Gb connection is to disable the connected to the router on the desktop so that there is only one option to transfer the files. I want to be able to keep them both connected and still have the full Gb speeds for network file transfers.

Any ideas on how i can achieve this?
If you need more info please let me know.

Thanks,
Will

create a point-to-point connection on the gigabit nics.

install and configure ftp on the laptop.

connect from the desktop to the laptop over ftp

upload files.
