Evening,

I don't know exactly when this started, but lately I've been getting terrible lag spikes. The intervals are random but usually no longer than 30 minutes. There's no big deal in home and office use but it can be seriously annoying when playing games. Sometimes when I'm in windows (XP) I get to see "One of your networking cables is not connected" in a balloon for a mear second, then it says "You now have a LAN connection".

I'm connected to ADSL via a Router which is built into the modem. What modem this is doesn't matter because I've never had problems with it.

Please help, this is bugging my *** off.

Check to see if it's the cable, make sure it's securely connected. Use another port on the router if you can. Also you can try replacing it.

Check your network card, make sure the connectors are good. If this is a PCI card, switch it over to the next PCI slot. Replace it if you have to.

I had the idea it was a hardware plroblem. Thanks for the help, I think I'll be replacing the cables first.
