Have a new Compaq PC running Windows Vista.

Pressing @ (ampersand) on the key board brings up " (inverted commas), and vice versa.

How do I reverse this to get the correct sign appearing on the screen and in print?

Check you language and region settings in the Control Panel.

Moved to Windows. Yes it is Keyboard related. But is clearly a Windows issue.

Cant see that settings in Control Panel wrong.
set to Uk english thru out.

any other ides please?

This isn't a fix
But in Microsoft Word (which i assume you're using) you can det it to swap @ signs with " and vice versa. Unfortunately it's not a fix and will only work with Microsoft Office
