Internet Explorer is THE MOST Secure Web Browser… Who'd Have Thought That!

A report compiled by security company Bit9 has named the “dirty dozen” web browsers with the most discovered vulnerabilities, and the results, which have been posted by NeoWin come as something of a, well let's face it, a major surprise. Bit9′s CEO, Harry Sverdlove said “A variety of vulnerability types – including buffer-overflow and cross-site [...]

Even if this data is to be believed, and it shouldn't be, it is not being interpreted correctly.
1) Doesn't list version numbers.
2) Lists a whole load of things which are not browsers.
3) "Microsoft Internet Explorer" is the 8th LEAST secure (32 "vulnerabilities")
4) Opera only has 6 "vulnerabilities". Even the NeoWin article this is based off acknowledges that much.

Nice attention grabbing title though.

No no sorry.... The comments that are after the "Article".

€The comments found everything the article may have done to say ie was the most secure and ranted and raved.

The truth is that the Bit9 Report is about applications. Not just about browsers. The sites like Neowin and GHacks are the ones that made it into a Browser war. That true article makes no reference at all to it being just about Browsers.

Application Control and Device Control Solutions - Bit9 News Releases

- Bit9, Inc. today unveiled its fourth annual report of the top applications with reported security vulnerabilities in 2010. Google Chrome placed first on the “Dirty Dozen” list, followed by Apple Safari and Microsoft Office. Apple and Adobe are the most represented companies with three applications each making this year's list. The “2010 Top Vulnerable Applications” report serves as a warning to enterprises about the risks of employees downloading unauthorized software and affirms the importance of staying current with software updates.

The report represents a “who's who” of venerable tech companies and the applications most popular with enterprises and consumers alike, and contradicts the perception that Apple software is the most secure. The “Dirty Dozen” list ranks applications by the number of reported “high severity” vulnerabilities that impacted end users during 2010

Plus they do forget that #12 is listed as Opera in a tie with Quicktime. So unless they are only including browsers that have like 5% (guess-timate) or more market share the reports are false. So the facts are simple. Neowin and GHacks made this into something it isnt. They neglected the reports findings by neglecting a browser listed in the report by only including browsers by big companies. The real report is about applications as a whole and not about browsers.

It is something to get people's blood churning, which it succeeded in doing.
