I went and bought myself a shiney new laptop with Vista to replace it.

Since I cant seem to network the two computers to access my important files and info and pull the information to my new computer without a screen, I have decided simply to clear the HD and sell it on eBay as a clean slate for parts/repairs.

Is there a way to do that (formatting) without a screen? Are there any other solutions I could look into for accessing or erasing files? (or even networking the two laptops... keeping in mind the xp laptop's screen is totally broken.)

Thank you in advance :)

Take the drive out of the old laptop, buy an external enclosure that hooks up via USB for 2.5" laptop drives, and hook it up to the new laptop. There; you now have access to all of the files, and can format it if you wish. If you're going to format it, however, use Killdisk (bootable/free program that fills up the entire drive with 0's so no data can be recovered).

Oh that's something I would have never thought of. (I'm kinda new in the world of laptops, at least I feel that way.)

What do those enclosures cost?
