Hi everyone im a complete newbie to linux and i need a bt of help. i just got linux 9 redhat installed and but i wanna know how to install things onto it for example amsn or limewire

Download the AMSN tar file, type "tar -zxvpf <name of gzip file>", and then go to the directory and look at the README. I think all you have to do is type "make install".

where would i get that file? or do i just google it?

it keeps on giving me "No rule to make target `install'. Stop." what do i do now?

Before you typed in "make install" did you first do "./configure" and "make" ?

k when i try installing lime wire it come up with a message that it cant find 2 packages there names are

j2re >=1.4.1

and

libXss.so.1


what do i do in this case?

no i didnt but when i tried it it said "No such file or directory

you need to get a copy of java 1.4 and library Xss and install those first, its called dependency, one program uses others to run, thats how linux is, most programs are a whole bunch of little ones tied together

since your using redhat, find an rpm depository site and download the required files in rpm format and install them with rpm -i filename, you need to be logged in as root to do this
