When i was using my much smaller harddrive (74.3gb)with the same components i am now, i could run graphics settings on the highest settings in game and get about 60fps but now, and seeing as my small harddrive is blown due to my brother so i can't revert back to it...I'm using this bigger harddrive as stated about in my computer specs below. But with this one i get really low fps in games and its very jerky and i can't run games in high settings. A friend of mine thinks its might be to do with my cpu or my gfx fan but i really would like some more opinions on what the problem is and how to fix it. Advice would be greatly appreciated. x

The spindle speed is fine, but that's not a lot of cache. The drive could be having problems loading up the environments quick enough. Could you tell us the specs of your old hard drive?

Well you went from using the Ferrari of HD's to the Geo Metro.

You lost your very fast loading times considerably which as said above can cause slowed framerates in large level games.

Hero's right.

You could also try updating your graphics drivers. Download the latest drivers, and download Driver Sweeper (click here). Uninstall your graphics drivers via the "Remove a program" option, then boot into Safe Mode. Use Driver Sweeper to remove any remnants of the ATI graphics drivers (and ONLY the graphics drivers), then boot back into regular mode. now install the new drivers.

All my drivers are up to date.

So if i get a hdd with faster rpm would it be back to normal fps? Also what hdd would u recommend?

Up to date does not mean that it went smoothly. Follow what I posted to ensure that they are installed clean. Weird things can happen with drivers and corruption is not outside of possibility.

As for a hard drive, look at the Western Digital Black series (link). They are just about as fast as the Raptors. If you have money to burn, get another Raptor or take the plunge and get a SSD.

Doubt seriously its the hard drive honestly. If im reading this correctly your RAM speed is at 200mhz where as they can run at 400mhz PC3200 speed (bus is at 100mhz meaning your RAM is physically running at 200mhz compared to full speed at 400mhz). Also, all 4 slots appear to be occupied meaning that you should also be in Dual Channel mode. Not only that but according to the specs your CPU is running well below rated speeds because the multi is set to x5. That multi should be set to 11x for a stock speed of 2200mhz.

Also, once these settings get set to their correct values there is also an option in the game settings to load textures to RAM instead of loading off the hard drive. This will enable faster texture loading so a slower drive wont make a difference. When you do this make sure you dont have any extra programs running in the background in Windows. (Any big programs that is that take alot of RAM).
