How do i lower the ping for my online game?

I just hbought the game Day Of Defeat, but everytime I play on it,it lags and my ping is always over 500 when everyone else have it under 100. I mean, my PC (P4 1.6 Ghz, GeForce4 Mmx 440, 384MB Ram, Win XP) matches the system requirement of the game and I have high speed cable internet and a router (Linksys Wireless G Router WRT54G). Since I pass every requirement, what is the problem?

Open a command prompt, type

"tracert <server name or ip>"

, and post the results.

use either the server name (ie. game.whatever.com)
or the ip of the server

Well I found my problem, when I plug it directly on my Internet Modem, it works fine, its with my router, but how can i make it work with my router?

I was looking into portforwarding, but I seem to have a problem to access my Router page, it says to type http://<my Ip address> , but when I do, it gives me Page does not exist, but when I do http:/192.168.1.1 , the page works, but no matter what settings I put, it doesnt do anything. Anyone have any suggestions?
