Thank you so much Liz, one question though, this was for my Moms computer and she is 2 hours away, I was visiting at the time trying to help her out. I sent an earlier post asking if it's possible if I could do this remotely for her and was recommended VNC server. I downloaded it and it seems a bit confusing, do you recommend the same and if so can you explain how to use it?
Thanks,
Steve

Steve, I have no clue...and I suspect your mom is like my daddy. CLUELESS when it comes to the details of computers. Liz

You are so right, ok, I will try to talk her through it over the phone or make another trip, it's always nice to see her anyway's.
Thanks again and will post a follow up log ASAP.
Steve

Steve:

Your still infected. We will give it shot using hijackthis...but if the entrys reappear (I'm betting they will) I'll post a second part to the fix.

Before attacking an adware/spyware problem with hijackthis make sure you have already run ad-aware SE with VX2 add-on cleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy (with updated database) and CWShredder as these programs will clean a lot of the crap out first. All links to programs are in my signature. Ok..on to the logÂ…..

Download and install CleanUp http://cleanup.stevengould.org/

Go to My Computer->Tools->Folder Options->View tab and make sure that Show hidden files and folders is enabled. Also make sure that the System Files and Folders are showing/visible also. Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up). Make sure to close any open browsers. Go into HijackThis->Config->Misc. Tools->Open process manager. Select the following and click Kill process for each one if they are still listed (they shouldn't be but make sure)

C:\WINDOWS\htkuvjfe.exe

Check and fix the following in HijackThis if they still exist (make sure you do not miss an entry)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [FacqGyw] C:\WINDOWS\htkuvjfe.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [-] C:\WINDOWS\htkuvjfe.exe

C:\WINDOWS\htkuvjfe.exe <---delete that file.

Now...run the cleaup utility and reboot/logoff when prompted.

Once done reboot (TWICE) and post a new HijackThis log file to confirm what was removed and if it's clean or not. Once you reboot twice..check the log. If those entrys reappeared proceed below. If not..just post the new log.

==============================
FIX Part 2

Download Silent runners.Vbs http://www.silentrunners.org/
1. Make sure you have any script blocking software disabled
2. Run the program. It will take a few minutes to complete.
3. Once complete it will produce a log named “StartupPrograms” with Your user and date in the filename. Open that txt file and posts it contents in your next post.

Download Find-qoologic.zip from my attachment here.
http://www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=31271&page=2
1. Unzip (It must be unzipped) the files to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the qoologic folder, run qoologic.bat from there and wait for it to finish.
3. It will take awhile so wait until the dos window disappears and disk activity stops.
4. Then open the text file it createdÂ… found here c:\log.txt and paste the contents into your next post

Download DLLCompare http://www.greyknight17.com/spy/DllCompare.exe

Please put it in a folder on the root drive (C:\)
Click the Run locate.com button
When the scan is complete click the Compare button.

It will sort through the files it found and determine which should be flagged as "No access" and display them in the lower box.
In a few minutes it will complete.
Click the button Make a Log of what was Found

Post that log.

**Note** Only if you get an error after pressing Run Locate.com:
Copy autoexec.nt from c:\windows\repair\ folder to c:\windows\system32\ folder

Open hijackthis...click...config..misctools. Check the 2 boxÂ’s next to "Generate Startup List" and then click "Generate Startup List". Post that log in your next post.

Post all those logs! This will ID the DAT file, EXE file and the 2 or more DLL's holding it in place and the registry entrys that will need deleted.

Thanks Microbell, one question before I start, when running ad-adware, spybot, etc, do you automatically have it fix everything or should I be cautious of what it removes?
Steve

Have it fix anything found. It won't remove any needed windows files so you should be ok. I let it detect everthing...then I checkmark them..but you can use either method. When you run CWShredder and the VX2 tool for adawareSE it will fix whatever is found automaticly..which is fine.

Ok Microbell, getting things done slowly but surely, one question about Cleanup, it says to back up important files, is this necesssary, it is difficult to run? Any help here?
Thanks,
Steve
