I have been using a Maxtor 160GB hard drive as a secondary storage device on my PC (as the D drive). When accessing it I would occasionally get an error message saying "device not available" or something like that. I would simply reboot and all would be well again. Now when I double click on it in "My Computer" it says "The disk in drive D is not formatted. Do you wish to format it now?". When I look at the properties it says file type is RAW, used space 0 bytes, available space 0 bytes. It appears that my hard drive has somehow un-formatted itself. Does this mean I have to re-format it? Has all the data I have on it been lost? How did this happen, and how can I keep it from happening again? I have an Athlon XP2600, 512MB of PC2700 RAM, running WinXP Pro SP1.
