GTA San Andreas settings

I have this strange problem with GTA San Andreas. Everytime I open it I have to go back into the graphics settings to fix the quality, res, draw distance, etc. Why won't it save when I exit the game. It drives me crazy having to re-adjust the settings everytime I play. Thanks for all help-
