I figured it out. I had the power supply plugged in to one of the slots on the motherboard at the 24pin ATX power connector. I didn't plug in another powerconnector in the ATX 8-pin connector on the motherboard, which didn't give it enough power to supply the graphics card with power. I am a noob. Learning slowly.
