dvd-r has been around for longer than +r therefore more dvd players will play them, as for quality i have used both,theres suposed to be a better quality with +r but i cant say i have ever been able to notice when playing either of them,also -r are a lot cheaper than +r now,i personly have always used -r and see no reason to change as there cheaper and have never had a problem with them
