While i am glad that you found a solution. I will say that most Windows Installers for Windows Vista are now .msi or .msu (Mainly .msi since .msu is only for updates) having to recompile the file everytime to just install something from Microsoft isnt the best solution. I would try to find a way to scan the system with check disk or Osiris's guide to make sure you are not infected.
