and sorry, what?! did you ADD google to your host file? I believe you're meant to delete it. In fact, I'm very sure.
If your dns isn't resolving correctly, two things come to mind.
1. do a tracert on www .google. com , see if you can see where it hangs (if it manages anything at all)
2. check the settings on your router. If the flushdns and netstart netstop commands aren't doing anything for you on the pc, it's possible your router is the source of the problem.
