Cannot install windows.

When you left it expanding, how long did you wait before you determined that nothing had happened?

WHen you installed your new hardware did you go in to the BIOS and reset the settings? If not I would suggest you do that and that way your BIOS will have fully recognised your hardware and selected the optimum settings for them for you.
 
Please for the love of everything sane, tell me you didnt use the Win7 DVD to format the drive.
 
I am fairly sure that the issue has something to do with my DVD drive because I connected an old drive I have and I installed XP just fine. I asked a friend of mine to put windows 7 on a flash drive so I could install windows from there, I should have it tomorrow after school to try.
 
Does the Win7 DVD jack up the HDD? :omg: *this may answer a few issues i've seen :) *

Read the GParted Tutorial thread. Simply put, the Win7 DVD only does a quick format which is like moving the junk to the recycle bin not deleting it.
