I have a D-Link DCM-200 cable modem. (it's about 3 or 4 years old) I'm trying to hook up to a router. I've tried two routers one netgear and now I'm trying to hook up a linksys WRT54G.

Issue. With either router hooked up, my Internet connection is very slow, (just a little faster than 56k speeds). Both routers have done this so it must be the cable modem. Just having the cable modem hooked up I get very fast speeds.

Any thoughts?

I think it's the routers. Could be firewall related. But not sure at the moment why it would slow you down so badly.

I know the WRT54G model has that stateful packet inspection, that might be a problem.

Yes friend it seems to be firewall related problem. Try to disable firewall on your router and see what happens.

I am not sure but also try to renew your IP address. Once i was facing the same problem and i have renewed my IP address and reset the cable modem and then by resetting my router it starts working perfectly. You can give it a try if u want to.
