Anyway to deny file renaming?

Is there a permanent method to lock a file so that it can be viewed but cannot be renamed or modified in anyway? And would it work if I were to transfer the file to a different computer?

You could share the file/folder over a network, then not check the box that allows users to change the file. This way they can't do anything with the file other than view it.

If you are moving it to a computer or account that isn't administrative you could click the read-only attribute in the properties of the file. That may even work on other admin computers, i'm just not sure if it is just for that computer / user that created the file, or if it is for any admin account on any computer.
