another command line problem

So I've got another command line problem. I am trying to create and edit batch files on a win 7 core i7 system. So I get to the root c directory, type edit, hit enter, and it says "edit is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Why won't it open the editor?

Which editor are you trying to open? "Edit" is not any command line phrase I know of...

I think that "view" might be the command line editor installed on windows by default.

EDIT: just tried it with no luck

@mindover- its just the old editor program. apparently its been around forever.
@kmote- I tried "view", no luck.
as a side note, "edit" worked on my xp machine. so why does it work on xp and not win 7? Its a mystery...

Windows 7 is a whole different OS than XP. I'll let Mak explain this one...

I would search the net for edit.com

Download to pc

Open cmd

Cd to dir

Run edit.com


Open in notepad would work just as well
