sheesh, computer on the fritz again. keep getting popups.

i think i got this one from sidereel, was trying to watch seinfeld and unfortunately the site always sends you to a third party site. yuck.

as an aside could anyone tell me if i associate all media files with say VLC or GOM player how do I get the player's icon to show up when browsing those files? for eg ive assigned avi's to GOM but when browsing them they have the VLC icon.


EDIT - off topic but may as well mention here, where can i check what each item in my registry does, whether its necessary or not? for example in my msconfig startup tab i have this rundll32, dunno whether i need or can delete?

Thats a big difference in logs there. All but one entry is left to remove

Do you recognize this IP?

I have the same issue with AVG 8. Seems to be a BIG issue. If you do a search for it, you'll see all kinds of posts about it. You can remove those two entries. The services may still be running which you will need to go into services.msc and stop them and then delete, thats if you try to remove them with Hijackthis and you get an error or they re-appear.
 
i dont see a delete option. the only option is to start, which i assume means they're already stopped. huh?

btw do you know the answers to the questions i asked earlier?

- could anyone tell me if i associate all media files with say VLC or GOM player how do I get the player's icon to show up when browsing those files? for eg ive assigned avi's to GOM but when browsing them they have the VLC icon.

- where can i check what each item in my registry does, whether its necessary or not? for example in my msconfig startup tab i have this rundll32, dunno whether i need or can delete?

aight everything has been good until today.

but now problems are starting to come back.

every few mins (i think when im changing sites in a browser) a new popup shows, antivirus 2009. pressing OR *OR* cancel starts scanning or appearing like a scan. its only if i click the X at the top right that it stops, but i think sometimes that causes a new popup.

there was another popup as well but ive forgotten the name. advice?

btw i seem to have a program installed named trojan remover. any idea if thats a good program or that somehow got installed w/o my knowedlge thru spyware?
