AMD announces FireStream 9170, first dedicated stream processor - Engadget
some important notes:
*it will be 55nm process technology
*consumes less than 150 watts of power
*2GB of GDDR3 RAM!! (HOLY SHNIKIES!)
*"world's first Stream GPU with double-precision floating point technology", but can be questionable from reading a comment on engadget that Nvidia is doing the same
*will cost $2000
*you'll be getting 500 GFLOPS
*the asynchronous direct memory access (DMA) ensures data can flow freely without interrupting the stream processor or CPU.
n most important:
*it is tailored for scientific and engineering calculations
too bad that we cant get these for desktop PCs........this could beat the 8800 Ultra easily!
u guys think this n Fusion is what is slowing AMD down? I know the mergance of ATI did, but what about this?
