I have an external harddrive that I have set to 'share' on windows vista so that it can be accessed through my network... however I'm not even sure If I set that up correctly as its my first time doing this. Then I want to access this harddrive from my ubuntu os on my laptop. Can I do this?

Yes. If you can see the network and connect to it with Ubuntu then you can access the drive and use it.

In ubuntu... I can go to "Networks" and I see "Windows Network"... click on that... but nothing shows up inside? I'm assuming it has to be a a file format issue but I'm still a linux n00b so I could be horribly wrong.

Ubuntu will read and recognize NTFS by default. So that just means you do not have a shared folder in there.

Do you know any good guides to set me up? I've been looking but unsure what to do sometimes cause I'm so use to windows.
