5.1 Ubuntu + External HD?

I have Ubuntu 5.1 and a Maxtor External 200GB. I can read files fine. However, I cannot write to the disk.

Error while copying to "/media/Max...- Season 5".

You do not have permissions to write to this folder.

how is the external drive formatted? if it is NTFS linux generally can't write to it. If you format it FAT32 both Windows and Linux will be able to read and write it.

It is Windows NTFS. Is there anyway I can write WITHOUT formatting?

Your best bet would be to backup the data and reformat it as FAT32 ... no big deal, just copy the data over and use Gparted to do that. Then it will work fine in Windows and in Linux

Another best bet for you would be to upgrade to 6.10. You don't need to download the new CD and reinstall to do that, by the way.

The newer build would probably have fewer compatibility issues.
