music may only play in stereo and dvds might, too, if you don't have the "pro" version of the software. check if the software settings are set to (or can be set to) 5.1 or 7.1. and like mRK said, check to see if you have 7.1 selected in the control panel's Sounds and Audio Devices extension.

use speedfan to check the temp in windows. the normal temp depends on the cpu you use. what cpu do you have? my computer runs between 35-40 C idle, but it's an athlon 64.

your computer just sounds slow. as for a fix, try more ram

in the Folder Options, you can set whether or not you want known file types to be displayed. also, some programs and file types just do that.

try defragging your pc. make sure there are no unnecessary process running in the background (use task manager to see what's running)

the one that came with my athlon 64 is running at 3245rpm right now, but it is able to rev up or down depending on need. speedfan will tell you what your fan is running at.

make sure your shares have the correct permissions set. also, you can turn on simple file sharing (if it's not already on). it's in the Folder Options menu
