It is likely the IP given to you is still register to the old router, try powering down the modem for about 30 sec. If that doesn't work plug the old router back in and go to the WAN configuration page on the router and release the IP. Then plug the new router in. If none of the above works...

Tell your husband to log out the router web page, go on his computer, connect to it and log out the correct way (use the log out button). Apparently it's still thinks the computer is log in and the security setting only allow 1 device to connect at a time.

It's good to know the specification and features that are available to you on the current device, otherwise you could buy something and end up not working. Keep it the same, buying from the same manufacturer increases the chance the product will work correctly.
