    CS and DOD Lag

Is this CS:S and DOD:S you're talking about or 1.6? Check your video drivers are up-to-date (maybe remove and reinstall them) and, if they're source games, try turning off dynamic lighting. Does it lag when you only have the title menu open?

    Router question

Wouldn't work - you'd need to forward the ports from the Sonicwall router to the Linksys one. As long as you don't use ports he is using for his applications and his/your computers are firewalled from each other (I'm guessing he has a work PC at home) you should be ok. I'm sure just by you...

    Possible new linux user!

Ubuntu's definitely a great place to start. Check HERE for a wealth of information on how to install/configure stuff. As for the Gnome/KDE question... Download Kubuntu as well - it's the KDE version of the original Ubuntu (which uses Gnome) - and see which one you like best!! I personally...

Around how old is everybody in these forums?

She can't exactly read all the words on the screen but she knows the icons and how to use the start menu. She can read "launch", "connect", "ok" and "cancel". She has to enter a username and password to log onto the computer as well.

    Router assigns duplicate IP addresses

The router being set to 'dynamic' is probably for the connection to your ISP and shouldn't affect your LAN. Have you tried typing "ipconfig" into the commandline on the Win98 machine? If it's connected to the internet but the DHCP details don't show in your router utility this will show you...

    computer running...OS not.

Is the CD you are using an original one, a copy or a 'homemade' one (with nlite for example). I had this problem before with a 'homemade' install CD where I had to skip files during the install - once it was complete (and I was able to boot into winxp) it was forever asking me for the install...

Around how old is everybody in these forums?

I'm 28 and still gaming avidly :D I went to 3 LAN parties last year and admin some servers for a gaming community in the UK. My 5 year old daughter can turn on a pc, log in with a password and pretty much do anything that a newbie computer user can do and more. I turned the blood/gore off on...

    Ip-addresses and locations

You will get given an IP from your ISPs allocation which is in Mexico. You would have a different IP address if you use a proxy server (as Warez Monster said) or if you use your connection to the internet to remotely login to another computer to perform tasks. You could also take into account...

    hard drive recovery

Just because you've deleted your partition it doesn't mean the data is gone - the raw data is still there it's just being ignored by the OS. It's not deleted until it's written over! You could use data recovery software to get some (maybe even all) your data back yourself but DON'T INSTALL...

    USB Headset - Teamspeak problem

I've got a logitech USB headset and it works fine on Teamspeak. It also works fine to play Counter Strike Source using Cedega.... BUT....... I can't get them to work at the same time. If I open Teamspeak and join a server then I open Counter Strike it comes up with a message saying the sound...

    cedega + directx 9

I read somewhere that cedega does not have full directx 9 compatibility yet (something to do with the shaders). This is the reason that BF2 won't run on it. Try adding the switch "-dxlevel 80" to the command line to run in direct8 mode.

    Its A Scam

Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me!! A plausible but far-fetched opinion. I certainly don't think that anti-virus companies are spreading viruses to create a demand for their products. If they were surely they would be competing against each other to make a virus that cannot be detected by...
