Is this CS:S and DOD:S you're talking about or 1.6?
Check your video drivers are up-to-date (maybe remove and reinstall them) and, if they're source games, try turning off dynamic lighting.
Does it lag when you only have the title menu open?

Wouldn't work - you'd need to forward the ports from the Sonicwall router to the Linksys one.
As long as you don't use ports he is using for his applications and his/your computers are firewalled from each other (I'm guessing he has a work PC at home) you should be ok.

She can't exactly read all the words on the screen but she knows the icons and how to use the start menu. She can read "launch", "connect", "ok" and "cancel". She has to enter a username and password to log onto the computer as well.
The router being set to 'dynamic' is probably for the connection to your ISP and shouldn't affect your LAN.
Have you tried typing "ipconfig" into the commandline on the Win98 machine? If it's connected to the internet but the DHCP details don't show in your router utility this will show you...
Is the CD you are using an original one, a copy or a 'homemade' one (with nlite for example).
I had this problem before with a 'homemade' install CD where I had to skip files during the install - once it was complete (and I was able to boot into winxp) it was forever asking me for the install...

Just because you've deleted your partition it doesn't mean the data is gone - the raw data is still there it's just being ignored by the OS. It's not deleted until it's written over!

I've got a logitech USB headset and it works fine on Teamspeak. It also works fine to play Counter Strike Source using Cedega....
